Calendar of events


This is a listing of activities of interest to residents of Southeast Arkansas. Anyone who would like to submit entries for consideration may do so in writing to the Entertainment Calendar, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71611. Since all activities are subject to change, it would be wise to confirm the activity with the sponsoring organization.

4 — The tradition will continue at St. Joseph Catholic Church as Lent approaches and the annual Lenten fish fry events kick off. The first fish fry will be held each Friday through and including April 11. Serving times will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. each Friday at St. Joseph Gallagher Hall. The price is $12 per meal for adults and $6 per meal for children under 12 years of age. The dine-in or carryout all-you-can-eat menu will include fried catfish fillets, French fries, slaw, homemade mild or spicy hush puppies, ice tea and a dessert. 4 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St., will host Live@5, its monthly music series, from 5-7 p.m. The featured group will be the On Call Band. Sponsored by M.K. 5 — The membership committee of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary will host a brunch from 10 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army Corps office, 501 E. 12th Ave. For more information, contact Foster at 870-536-5099.

5 — The annual Railroadiana Show and Sale will be held at the Arkansas Railroad Museum, 1700 Port Road, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adult admission is $5; children ages 6 to 12 is $2 and children under 6 will be admitted free with a paying adult. For more information, call the museum at 870-535-8819.

5 — The 17th annual Bill Sanders-Bo Piper Benefit Bass Tournament will be held on the Arkansas River at Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Regional Park from safe light until 3 p.m. Boats will launch according to their paid entry registration numbers. The entry fee is $110 for each two-person team. Participants who register at the ramp on the day of the tournament will be assessed a $15 late fee. 9 — Shepherd’s Center of Pine Bluff recently announced its spring 2014 session of classes. Classes will be held each Wednesday through April 23 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Lakeside Methodist Church, 15th Avenue and Olive Street. The registration fee is $10. 10 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St., will hold Photography 2 with Eric Maynard classes each Thursday through April 10 from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. The cost of the class is $85 for members and $120 for non-members. 12 — The sixth annual Easter Fashion Parade, Luncheon and Silent Auction will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. Tickets are $10 for children ages 5-12 and $20 for ages 13 and up. For ticket information, call 870-536-2074.

12 — USA Dance Chapter 5014 will hold its monthly dance at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Central Presbyterian Church, 6300 Trinity Drive. Lisa Kirkpatrick of Dance Makers will instruct a dance class, followed by dancing and fellowship.

12 — The Jubilation Jazz “Big Band” will perform at 6:30 p.m. in the worship center of Summit Baptist Church, 901 Ridgway Road. The public is invited to attend. There is no cost for the concert but a free-will offering will be received to help with the expenses of the band.

24-27 — Tickets are now on sale for “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, to be presented by the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas on April 24-27. Ticket prices range from $13 to $17 and $5 for students. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. April 24-26 and at 2 p.m. April 27. 26 — The Harbor City Festival and Cook-off will return to Saracen Landing. Cook teams can compete in the gumbo competition and/or catfish cook-off. A KidsZone, which will open at 10 a.m., will feature inflatable amusements, crafts, football/basketball toss and other activities. Admission is $5 for adults. Kids 12 and under will be admitted free.
