Calendar


This is a listing of activities of interest to residents of Southeast Arkansas. Anyone who would like to submit entries for consideration may do so in writing to the Entertainment Calendar, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71611. Since all activities are subject to change, it would be wise to confirm the activity with the sponsoring organization.

July

25 — Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, 9238 Sulphur Springs Road, will hold its monthly Senior Adult Day at 10 a.m. in the church’s Christian Community Center. There will be a potluck luncheon with games and prizes. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Strumming Seniors under the direction of Scott Mouser of Immanuel Baptist Church. Participants are asked to bring their favorite dish and enjoy the fellowship. There is no charge for admission and all ages are invited to attend. Details: Call Judy Hall at 870-718-9675.

26 — “The Southerner’s Handbook, A guide to Living the Good Life” by the editors of Garden & Gun, will be reviewed by Patsy Roberts of Crossett at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26 in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel St. The public is invited to attend.

August

1 — The Joe Pitts Band will perform during the monthly Live@5 music series from 5-7 p.m. at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St. The event, sponsored by M.K. Distributors, is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.

1-2 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St., will combine tinkering and theater to offer another creative opportunity, “TinkerFest Meets TheaterFest,” from 1 to 4 p.m.

5 — The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service is now taking applications for the Extension Wellness Ambassador Program. The Extension Wellness Ambassador training program will be offered over five sessions held Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26, and Sept. 2, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sessions will rotate among locations in Jefferson, Bradley and Cleveland counties. Training begins on Aug. 2 at the Jefferson County Extension Office, 500 S. Idaho St., with instruction on nutrition basics and physical activity. 9 — The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas will host the second Saturday Family FunDay from 1-3 p.m. Visitig artist, Tim Jacob, will demonstrate landscape painting with acrylics.

14 — The annual Pine Bluff Art League Juried Exhibition will open at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas. A reception will be held from 5-7 p.m., with prizes to be awarded at 5:30. The exhibit will be on display through Nov. 12.
