Three Rivers Audubon Society will conduct a Christmas bird count on Friday under the direction of Rob Doster.
Anyone wishing to participate may do so by contacting Doster at email@example.com. Those without e-mail may register by calling Carolyn Theis at 870-535-3265.
This is the 114th annual Christmas bird count. Volunteers in 50 states, all Canadian provinces and parts of Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands will take part. Last year 71,000 observers from 2,369 different Christmas Bird Counts participated. It is the longest-running census of bird populations and is used to help scientists assess the health and well-being of different species. This knowledge has saved some species from extinction.
