The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., will host its monthly Family FunDay from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.
May’s Family FunDay will complement the exhibitions, “Arkansas Champion Trees: An Artist’s Journey” and “A Deep Sense of Place: The Arkansas Delta”. ASC’s education coordinator will demonstrate a simple way to make a journal out of folded paper. Participants will also learn how to make pop-ups, pockets and a cover for their book. They will be able to use materials such as colored paper, pencils, markers and leaves from outdoors to create a landscape within their journal.
In ASC’s Tinkering Studio, visitors will also have the opportunity to make a shadow box diorama out of paper and LED lights.
ASC’s second Saturday Family FunDay program seeks to offer monthly hands-on arts and science activities in which visitors create art, complete science projects, or perform dance, music or theatre. Activities complement current art or science exhibitions. Activities are free and led by visiting artists, local art educators and ASC staff. People of all ages are encouraged to attend. The second Saturday Family FunDay programming is made possible in part by a grant from the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation, an affiliate office of the Arkansas Community Foundation Inc.
