The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas will open the annual Pine Bluff High School Exhibition from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a free reception in the Simmons Gallery.
The exhibition features three murals created by Virginia Hymes’ high school students. This year students were challenged to self-represent following a discussion in which murals were analyzed in class. Students considered what messages they would like to convey and how these ideas might be expressed visually. The collaborative murals explore issues students perceive as relevant to themselves and their community. Also on display will be students’ preparatory sketches and photographs of the work in progress.
The Arkansas Art Center’s Artmobile will be on ASC grounds Tuesday through Friday and will extend hours Thursday to 6:30 p.m. to coincide with the reception.
The ASC, located at 701 S. Main St., is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., and closed on Sunday and Monday. Gallery admission is free.
