The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas will honor its volunteers and begin the celebration of 20 years in its current location at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
This year, the center will take a “Trip Down Memory Lane,” as performers, volunteers, and former center staff are asked to join in to gather stories from the past years in anticipation of the 20-year celebration.
The 2013 recipient of the coveted Catherine M. Bellamy Award for the Performing Arts is Adam Robinson.
Executive Director Lenore Shoults said, “No one has done more for the theater at the Arts & Science Center than Adam. He helped raise the funds for our current building which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, he insisted that the theater needed a fly system — and he was right, and he has volunteered countless hours in service to the center. It is impossible to imagine the theater without Adam Robinson and we are grateful for his service,” she said.
Ann Smith is the 2013 recipient of the Margaret Spearman Memorial Volunteer of the Year award. Smith coordinates the Art Krewe opening night receptions that are enjoyed by thousands of attendees over the course of each year. From the themed centerpieces to the gourmet treats, every aspect requires coordination, Shoults said.
“The opening night receptions are integral to the center’s success. In an era when openings at other venues consist of store-bought cookies and punch, Ann and the ladies of Art Krewe uphold traditions of hospitality and grace. We are indebted to Ann for making these events so special.”
The public is invited to attend this free event.
The center, located at 701 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 1-4 p.m. Saturday and is closed on Sunday. For more information, contact the center at 870-536-3375, email@example.com or visit the website at www.ArtsScienceCenter.org.
