AM&N graduate writes book about PB businesswoman

Sandra E. Gibbs, a 1964 graduate of AM&N College (now the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff), has written and published a book about Pine Bluff businesswoman, Thedora Clemmons Trammell, owner of Trammell’s Beauty & Barber Supply.

“Trammell: More Than A ‘Hair’ Life — The Life Story of Thedora Clemmons Trammell”, recounts the life of Trammell who uses her skills as a beautician to build a business and life beyond hair care in Pine Bluff. Following in the tradition of other notable Black women from small towns, Trammell from Almyra, becomes a successful beautician and business woman in Pine Bluff. Using the skills she learned at home and from working for others, she establishes a substantial family enterprise. The book recounts her early work on the AM&N campus college canning factory and her work for the then president of the college.

Gibbs also graduated from the University of Illinois and is a former associate executive director and senior program officer for a national professional organization of English language arts educators. She is a native of Crossett.
