AARP Smart Driver Safety course set for Tuesday

The AARP Smart Driver Safety Program, developed by AARP, will be offered from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, 1600 W. 40th Ave.

This is a new course for people 50 and older and covers the normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time that comes with age, and provides practical techniques for dealing with these changes. A driver who completes the course will receive a certificate. By state law this certificate will enable drivers to receive a discount on their automobile insurance if they are 55 and older. This discount is good for three years under Arkansas state law.

The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, payable to AARP at the time of the class. Participants should bring a valid driver’s license and their AARP membership card if they are members.

This is a four-hour multimedia course and there are no tests to pass. The class will be taught by Bob Daugherty, a licensed AARP instructor.

To pre-register, call 870-247-4898. The class will be limited to 35 participants.
