Ryan Marshall and Demetrice Ballenger to exchange vows


Marshall-Ballenger: Mr. and Mrs. Ronald L. Marshall of Atlanta, Ga., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Ryan Monique Marshall, to Demetrice Deonte Ballenger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gemond M. Ballenger Jr. of Waverly Hall, Ga.

Miss Marshall is the granddaughter of Mrs. Geraldine Brunson of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Mr. Eddie Lee Jones and the late Mrs. Willie Mae Jones of Pine Bluff, Ark. Ryan is a 2005 graduate of Salem High in Conyers, Ga. She graduated from Tuskegee University with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. Miss Marshall also earned her master of electrical engineering with a concentration in systems engineering from Tuskegee University. Ryan is employed with the Department of Defense as an electrical engineer.

Mr. Ballenger is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Gemond Ballenger Sr. of Columbus, Ga., and Mrs. Rosie Lee Jones and the late Mr. P.J. Jones Sr. of Columbus, Ga. Demetrice is a 2005 graduate of Harris County High School in Hamilton, Ga. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in drafting and design from ITT in Houston, Texas. He is employed at Walmart in Houston, Texas and will graduate with a master of science in civil engineering from Prairie View A&M University in Houston, Texas in December.

Ryan and Demetrice met while undergraduate students at Tuskegee University when he gave Ryan and her best friend, Sharee Gibson, a ride to Walmart in Auburn, Ga. Demetrice, along with the help of Ryan’s girlfriends and Best Buy employees who taped the event, surprised Ryan with a public proposal during the All-Star Game weekend in Houston, Texas in 2013.

The couple will wed during the Memorial Day weekend on May 24, 2014, at Beulah Baptist Church in Decatur, Ga., with the Rev. Jerry D. Black officiating.
