Bash on Barraque to offer food, fun for the entire family

The second annual Bash on Barraque will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pine and Barraque streets in downtown Pine Bluff.

This year, an exciting part of Bash will be the three-on-three basketball tournament that will be held all day. The winners will receive trophies and each team member will be given a T-shirt. The cost of entering the tournament is $50.

The National Guard will provide pedal cars and a rock-climbing wall for children. Other free family activities will include children’s games and crafts sponsored by local organizations and churches; face painting; the balloon man; and mask-making by the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas. The Pine Bluff Police Department will have bouncy houses and the Pine Bluff Fire Department will bring a fire truck and its Fire Safety House. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department will sponsor Identikid. There will also be pets available for adoption.

Adults will have an opportunity to participate and buy from the crafters that will be selling their wares or displaying items that can be bought for seasonal presents. Music and entertainment will fill the air near the Jefferson County Courthouse.

A trolley, provided by the Pine Bluff Transit Department, will be available to take participants on a tour of historical downtown sites. In observance of the sesquicentennial year of the battle of Pine Bluff that took place near the courthouse, attendees will also have an opportunity to tour this site.

Food vendors will be selling food on Barraque Plaza. Foods will include hot dogs and hamburgers, Memphis-style barbecue, turkey legs and chicken wings. Ice cream and homemade cake will also be available for purchase. Pine Bluff Downtown Development will give away free popcorn.

The first 100 children to attend this event will be given free goody bags and will have a chance to win a children’s bicycle. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

The family events are sponsored by the Old Towne Committee under Pine Bluff Downtown Development and the Pine Bluff Convention and Visitors Bureau. The committee is chaired by Daryl Taylor, assistant city attorney for the city of Pine Bluff.
