“Small Works on Paper,” an annual touring visual art exhibition coordinated by the Arkansas Arts Council, recently kicked off its 2014 statewide tour at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St.
To celebrate the opening, the Arts & Science Center hosted a public reception Thursday, which included talks by the artists.
The exhibition features the work of 39 Arkansas artists and will travel to 10 galleries throughout the state in a yearlong touring show. To view the 2014 touring schedule and the list of artists whose work was selected, visit www.arkansasarts.com/programs/swop.aspx.
Now in its 27th year, “Small Works on Paper” showcases artwork no larger than 24-by-24 inches by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online art gallery coordinated by the Arts Council. The 2014 show features 40 works, which were selected from more than 300 submissions by juror Mary Kennedy, CEO of the Mid-America Arts Alliance. Kennedy is the past director of ExhibitsUSA and curator of exhibitions for M-AAA.
The exhibition will be on display at the center through Jan. 30. Regular hours for the exhibition are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.
